Training for sport is far more than “what you do in a gymnasium” and requires the steadying hand of coach who understands and respects the technical expertise of said discipline. Developing exercise technique is relatively easy algebraic type formula of time, dedication and proper application whereas mastery of sport is an entirely different affair that includes tactical vision and creativity amongst other traits and abilities. Unfortunately much of the marketing in the exercise world, or at least parts, promotes the building of athletes solely through “what you do in the weight room”. Nothing could be less truthful and while players trained in such manner may stand atop the weight room charts they typically lack ability in sports that require creativity. While there are endless examples of sporting skills that go unnoticed to the viewing public and far less spectacular this remarkable strike was not through a “paint by numbers” approach that limited exercise to resistance training. The first step to answering that need is one that no one should need to make but by observation is abundantly clear, play sports. Enjoy the sport and get out and play, have fun and stop watching but “do”.
